1983 - LOOK, MA, NO HANDS: Purchasers of 1984 Continental Mark VII luxury cars may order the world's first factory-installed "hands-free" mobile telephone beginning May 1, 1984. The driver speaks into a microphone in the headlining of the car and listens through the car's regular entertainment system's speakers. The "hands-free" feature is described by Lincoln-Mercury Division as contributing to safety and convenience while making phone calls. The phone works in cities with the new cellular radio telephone system.
