power steering leak 92 bb

Postby Ajl0429 » Fri Apr 07, 2017 9:51 pm

i have a 92 bb and it is just puking power steering fluid from the drivers side somewhere between the pump and the rack, its not leaking from the tierod boots. my pump is screaming when fluid is in it. im not familiar with the whole steering system yet im only 17. im thinking it might be leaking from a hose somewhere. any help would be great.

Fill with fluid to indicator, start and run engine. Second person needed to turn steering wheel while you watch for leaks. The high pressure hose is often the culprit but needs to be operated for it to show. 8-)

if i buy and replace my pump will you think if should fix my problem. because if i need a new rack i might as well go all the way and do the sn95 swap to it.

It won't fix it if it isn't the pump. I'd look for the leak first. No need to throw potentially needless parts at it.

Yes ditto, don't mess with the pump unless you have to. It requires R&Ring the pulley with a puller tool.
