Why would a car sold new in California have a Metric gauge cluster? It's illegal to sell a new car in Canada with it having an American speedo. Isn't it the same there? Replaced maybe?

I thought it to be quite odd also. It would be interesting on the history of the car, more than the seller mentions. Working for Ford aerospace, maybe pops' had the cluster changed out so it would say 200 on the face

An engineer may have wanted a modern format for speed & distance..LOL That old British system of Mph is hanging on far too long. Blame Jimmy Carter for not following through.
