Front wheel hub binding?

Postby kruqnut » Fri Dec 15, 2017 10:28 pm

I'm having an issue with a road vibration, I found out my front passenger wheel is not rotating freely, I pulled the bearings, they are pretty new, they seemed ok, i tried resetting them and going alittle looser, still get the vibration, put new bearing in, wheel still wants to lock up at torque spec. can hear a grinding noise when i rotate wheel if i leave it loose, what gives? do I need a new hub or what? the rotor is in good condition and isn't warped.

Nope, found the inside of the rotor, was rubbing the edge of the control arm, My control arm must be bent? i took a grinder and took about 1/16th off the edge now its good.

can't figure out why it would rub that, camber way out of whack?

Interior v good but needs cleaning, exterior has cultivated surface rust but no collision damage. The engine hasn't been started for a few years. It was running when parked under roof. 8-)

I have passed along several 90-92 models because I don't particularly care for the reconfigured dash, airbag steering wheel etc. the one I have was converted to a 5 speed.

As far as the HO motor is concerned, there is no difference in the 88-89 HO and the later ones.
The only later model I ever considered keeping was the 1990 Dark Titanium (Gray) Special Edition. It was only produced that year and IMHO was superfine. 8-)

Take the wheel back off, and check it all out carefully. Something is amiss, I'd wonder most about the BJ. That clearance isn't much normally at the rotor/LCA. The wheel bearings or races may be galled, worn out, or the rotor might be the wrong one. If it all seems okay, yank and swap the rotor from the other side. It should become obvious where the issue is after that good inspection.

Take it in for an alignment and let the shop tell you. Without seeing the vehicle, I would guess that the front passenger wheel hit a curb block.
