EATC Sensor?

Postby Panamerica » Fri Nov 10, 2017 5:34 pm

Hey Everyone...
I'm looking to finally replace the EATC on my 90 Bill Blass and came across this note on a listing for one with a part number F1LY-19980-A:

"...vehicles built before 04/21/90 must also replace sensor w/FOLY-19E642-A."

I Google FOLY-19E642-A but come up empty... Can someone explain or identify which part it refers to?
I'm also thinking that maybe the EATC (FOLY-19E642-A) is a direct fit for 91-92 and late 90 Marks and there's a different one for my pre 4/21/90 built '90 that doesn't require any extra parts...

Any help would be appreciated.

I appreciate it when someone helps me resolve a mark VII issue by sharing their knowledge... But I REALLY love it when I pick away at a problem and discover the key to figuring it out myself.
In this case, what was written as an O was actually a 0 (zero)... Anyway, here's what I found:

EATC - Redesigned Replacement Control Head

AIR CONDITIONING - ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (EATC) - SERVICE TIPS FOR REPLACEMENT OF
REDESIGNED CONTROL HEAD - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 4/21/90

FORD:1985-88 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1984-87 CONTINENTAL
1984-90 MARK VII
1985-88 COUGAR

ISSUE:

The EATC control was redesigned in April, 1990. It has a center mode button labeled "VENT" and requires a new ambient temperature
sensor calibrated to match the new control. Using the wrong sensor will bias the interior temperature 5-10~ F from the set point.

ACTION:

If an old level EATC control head is replaced with a new level control head, a new ambient temperature sensor (F0LY-19E642-A),
identified by a white plastic body, must also be installed.

If a vehicle equipped with the old level control head (center button labeled "A/C") requires a new ambient temperature sensor assembly, use
(E4LY-19E642-A), identified by a black plastic body.

If the (E4LY-19E642-A, black body) sensor is not available, use of the (F0LY-19E642-A, white body) sensor will require installation of a new EATC
control head.

Interesting. I've got a friend who has had issues with his older Mark VII's, and he's swapped out EATC's several times over the years. His current 90 Mark VII he got from me, I don't recall if it was an early or late 90 model. I'm hoping to retrofit a late 90's EATC into mine, I haven't begun to see if it's possible. I love the later versions with the huge buttons, lit up and colored etc. We'll see how that goes some day.

I just found a yard with an 89 and a 91 mark here in Chicago and so I'm heading out tomorrow to see if there's any EATCs, Tripminders and Sensors (ambient and interior) still there... I just picked up an NOS E4LY-19E642-A on ebay and have made inquiries into F0LY-19E642-A... I'll share any sources I might come up with...

BTW- There are currently 3 of the E4LY-19E642-A ambient sensors on ebay.
